Five Kenya Forest Service Officers Charged In Eldama Ravine Court Over Death Of Form 3 student

Forest rangers reportedly assaulted Form 3 student Stephen Mwangi from Majimazuri.

Due to the severity of the assault, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret admitted the boy to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He tragically succumbed to his injuries five days later.

Allegations that the forest rangers attempted to tamper with assault-related evidence have cast doubt on the incident’s circumstances.

Last weekend, members of the public intervened when the forest rangers attempted to enter the Eldama Ravine Hospital, where the boy was initially taken.

They chased the forest rangers off the hospital grounds.

The absence of recorded CCTV footage at the hospital further frustrated the grieving family members and journalists seeking answers.

According to witnesses, Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers mistreated the hospital’s medical supervisor on the day of the incident, and the CCTV camera was malfunctioning at the time.

Baringo County Forest Conservator Ann Nyaoke confirmed that the Koibatek sub-county DCI arrested five Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers linked to the tragic death following the incident.

On Wednesday, Eldama Ravine Court arraigned Zipporah Chepkurui, Charles Korir, Simon Njoroge, Stanley Njoroge, and Francis Lemiso.
