Gospel artist Victor thompson reveals, ‘Used to sell alcohol, condoms, marijuana to prostitutes’

In his memoir, gospel musician Victor Thompson, who is best known for his hit song “This Year,” describes how he resorted to providing marijuana and alcohol to prostitutes in the main cities of Nigeria.

In an honest conversation with Bana Africa, Victor Thompson discussed the hardships of distributing marijuana and alcohol to prostitutes as a way of surviving following the deaths of both of his parents when he was 12 years old. He also shared his remarkable turnaround story.

Gospel artist Victor Thompson detailed the difficulties he faces on a daily basis, including the need to work numerous jobs in order to make ends meet.

During the day, he allegedly sold small containers of water on the streets, while during the night, he operated a tiny store next to a brothel where he sold alcoholic beverages, marijuana, and cigarettes to prostitutes.

“In the past, I was in the business of selling alcoholic beverages, marijuana, cigarettes, and clean water. During the morning and afternoon hours, I worked as a vulcanizer, made shoes, and sold clean water.

“However, when it was nighttime, I returned to my business, which was located in close proximity to a brothel, to sell alcoholic beverages, marijuana, and cigarettes. A significant number of my clients were prostitutes.

“Between the ages of 12 and 14, I experienced the grief of losing both of my parents. The first to die away was my father; I was probably ten years old at the time. After my father’s death, my aunts evicted us from the home he once owned.

“We did not have a decent home to spend the night with my family.”

“All praise be to God. A friendly carpenter gifted us an empty bed to sleep on. During the years we lived together, I would sneak my mother into the bed at night because it looked like a bush.

“This was how we lived. However, she was unable to cope with it, which ultimately led to her death.

Mother and joyful journalist.
