Who will lead the ODM in lieu of Raila Odinga? Deputy Party leaders fight for the party leadership. Deputy party leader Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya fight for top leadership.

Former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has launched nationwide rallies to popularise the ODM party and bolster his bid to succeed Raila Odinga.

Joho’s rallies, although presented as party popularisation events, serve as platforms for him to promote himself as a potential party leader.

Joho kicked off his rallies in Homa Bay County and plans to tour several other counties to garner support for his leadership bid.

Notably, ODM legislators from the Western region have given his events a wide berth, hinting at a simmering feud between Joho and former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, another potential successor to Odinga.

Western leaders also back Hassan Joho to lead the party over their local man, Oparanya. Following Raila Odinga’s planned appointment to the AU top seat, ODM is currently embroiled in a leadership dispute.
