Within the boundaries of Mombasa County, Governor Abdullswamad Sharrif Nassir has issued an executive order that prohibits the sale, admission, transit, distribution, and use of muguka in any and all circumstances.

In addition, the directive, which will take effect on May 23, 2024, requires the immediate closure of all stores that deal in Muguka and issues a stern warning against the transit of the commodity inside the county.

With the issuance of an executive order, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has prohibited the sale, supply, and use of khat across the whole county.

On Thursday, Nassir issued the order at Port Reitz Hospital in Mombasa, drawing attention to the widespread use of the psychoactive substance across the coast, even among youngsters who are enrolled in school.

Nassir claims that traffickers in Muguka have disregarded the rules enacted to protect children from the effects of the drug, and that some of them have even gone so far as to sell the substance to youngsters under the age of 18.
