On November 15, 2023, Bevalyne Kwamboka, a well-known street food vendor, had a difficult day when she had to retract her support for President William Ruto in before of Kenyans’ elections for president in 2022.
In August 2022, she acknowledged that she was a first-time voter and lacked knowledge of the process.
“I retract my statements, I was naive, inexperienced, and probably very sorry,” Ms. Kwamboka stated, sharing a screenshot from 2022 in which she wished President Ruto well on his election victory.
She apologized in many replies, stating that she was speaking to the country from Bogichora, Nyamira County, in an attempt to stop the continued harassment of UDA bloggers and internet influencers who have recently expressed regret for backing President Ruto.
She said she wanted to “tell on herself” before the trolls attacked her, and it seemed like she agreed with a tweep who said she was regretting using the money she had been paid to promote a hashtag in support of William Ruto.
Her supporters’ reactions are summarized below:
“You just have to adjust to the new normal; you do not have to apologize for what you believed to be right,” Ongaro Conrad said.
“You are free to cast your vote for the candidate you think is best for you. Like you, I voted for Raila, but I am not sure how things would have played out otherwise.
According to Richard Carrie, “We learn as we go.”
“We are not in need of your apologies at this time. Here is where some of “you” shoved “us.”
If your restaurant is still in business, hopefully, you may still charge a plate of chips for your patrons who used to frequent it (for chips mwitu).
Like Osoro remarked, “I hope Ulipanda miti🤗.”
“I debated between unfollowing you then and waiting until this day. “At least you gained knowledge,” Tito Nyongesa remarked.
Assumed… The majority of young individuals who have not kept up with Kenyan politics and government may not know anything.
It is not necessary for you to apologize. Onyoyo Vin continued, “Mistakes teach us lessons.
What matters are the lessons that were learned. Initially, pay attention to those who are older than you. According to Japur Jaemo, “They have seen what you have not seen.”
In 2020, Ms. Kwamboka became well-known when a tweet she posted about her street food company went viral.
UDA lawmaker Millicent Omanga raced to her street food vendor post and offered some assistance.
However, this quickly became a contentious situation when Ms. Kwamboka accused Ms. Omanga of fabricating the amount she gave to her business in support and that she had only visited it for the purpose of taking campaign photos.
Ms. Kwamboka also started to publicly endorse Ruto at the same time, and she frequently posted some of his stuff on her page.
Lately, though, a lot of Ruto’s fervent internet admirers have begun expressing remorse because of the struggles they are going through.
Their grounds for wanting to break away from Kenya Kwanza were the exorbitant expense of life and burdensome taxation.
