EACC arrest Ganze Assistant county commissioner for stealing food donations worth Ksh0.5 Million

Ganze Assistant County Commissioner was detained by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday morning in connection with the purported sale of humanitarian food.

Food supplies intended for distribution to low-income households in one of the coastal counties reportedly disappeared from the possession of the Assistant County Commissioner, according to the anti-graft agency.
The coast-region offender allegedly works in a nearby county, according to EACC.
The relief food is estimated to be worth Sh550,200.
“The Commission has this morning arrested an The Commission has this morning arrested one Teddy Buya BonayaAssistant County Commissioner 1,  Ganze Sub-County, in Kilifi County, who stole and sold relief food valued at Kes 550,200 meant for needy residents in Tana North Sub-County within Tana-River County.
“He will be arraigned at the Garissa Anti-Corruption Court tomorrow (Thursday),” EACC said.
The Commission said investigations into the theft began in April 2020.
The theft of 300 bags of relief food from Tana North Sub-County in Tana-River County was said to have occurred in April 2020, prompting the Commission to launch investigations, according to EACC.

The value of the 105 bags of rice and 1 bag of beans, which totaled Sh550,200, was determined by the Commission to have been stolen by the Assistant County Commissioner. 
It said that the Director of Public Prosecutions reviewed the final report and agreed with the Commission’s recommendation to arrest and prosecute the individual for the crime of abuse of office in violation of Section 46 read with Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
