How senior officials at the Ministry of Sports are looting Taxpayer funds while employees and liaison Officers wallow in despair and poverty without even operating costs.
The Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports is heavily looted. Relatives of the CS Ababu Namwamba and residents of his village secure the majority of managerial positions. Only the villagers from Budalangi are privileged.
The PS Creative Economy also bears the brunt of this looting. He has not paid the Youth Connekt secretariat, a team of young Gen Z people who worked tirelessly during the Youth Connekt event. The PS has specifically refused to pay them.
The National Youth Council’s CEO is also looting money. In fact, she has been acting for two years now despite being about 42 years old, which is unconstitutional since the council’s CEO should not be more than 35 years old.
She is part of the team responsible for pocketing funds intended for the Youth Council secretariat. She allegedly replaced the names of deserving youth with those of her in-laws’ and family members’ names on the payment list submitted to the PS.
The council has an annual budget allocation of Sh98 million but does not host its own events; instead, it relies on partner events.
They are even unable to pay their employees’ full salaries. In fact, many have resigned, and there are no funds to rehire or advertise positions. If there is no funding available, where does the money go? It’s crazy.
The Youth Connekt Summit had a budget close to Sh1 billion, but tenders allegedly went to CS associates like Itumbi and Weston. Reportedly, a ‘Friends of the CS’ payment list existed.
Relatives and friends of the CS allegedly stayed at opulent five-star resorts in Naivasha during the WRC, and they also reportedly received tender awards. The list of corruption allegations is endless.
This youth ministry is crazy. Youth Connekt’s story does not end there. Guys who worked hard for it have not been paid. The liaison officers at the airport, responsible for welcoming international guests and delegates, have not received payment.
Neither the youth officials who worked day and night, nor the youth dancers and entertainers in the creative economy, have received any payment. They probably haven’t paid suppliers either.
These young people, aged 18–25, are just trying to make ends meet.
According to reports, the National Youth Council, whose CEO has allegedly done nothing to ensure timely payments, hosted the summit.
The kids sweat, bleed, and cry, but no one has asked for payment. Less than 100 people have waited for months, while over 10,000 delegates could receive payment within two days.
” I am a saddened father. As a liaison officer, my daughter has not received any payment. She worked night shifts to receive guests and delegations, staying up for three or more nights and using her savings. She’s 18.
” How can I explain the nature of government to her when a ministry is on the verge of misleading her? The president himself attended the summit’s opening ceremony.
“He should have realized that the country’s youth were not receiving enough attention. These young men and women are pushing hard and working hard, but a few people seem intent on deceiving them.
” Cyprian, you must expose this. The president must know what’s happening. The CEO of the National Youth Council, the PS for Creative Economy, and the CS should tell us when and how much they will pay our sons and daughters,” sources privy with the data revealed to blogger Cyprian Nyakundi.
“They might even be underpaying them. Respectfully, I urge the CS to make sure these children receive fair compensation for their diligent efforts. As for the CEO of the Council, don’t just sit there looking pretty; you have a youth office to advocate for youth voices, so do your job or resign.
“But I also commend the CEO for managing with such a meagre budget, possibly less than Sh100 million a year. The CS knows this but hasn’t pushed for a budget increase, meaning 75% of Kenya’s population is worth a budget of less than 100 million a year.
“This is insane. In summary, we should expedite the payment of the Youth Council funds to avoid further disputes. Although my knowledge of WRC is limited, it appears that there is a problem within the ministry,” the sources added.
More sources also revealed that Sports Kenya and FKF where FIFA, and other international bodies that remit funds being squandered.
“Come to Sports Kenya and see wonders. The director has a Mpango Wa Kando with whom he shares a child. Despite being under contract, the woman receives a higher salary than other contract workers.
” They consistently travel to all stadiums and receive a generous daily salary. She manages Jamhuri Stadium, leaving other permanent staff to warm the seats in the office. She even reports to the director’s office,” more sources revealed.
