KRA seal border point and airports hunting for Jubilee financier Mary Wambui over unpaid tax

Taxman Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) seals airports and border points in hunting for a billionaire Jubilee Party campaign financier who is wanted over Sh2.2 billion unpaid taxes from big-ticket State tenders in agencies like the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) and the military.
KRA issued a red alert to seal the border points, includesing of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Moi International Airport, to deter Mary Wambui Mungai from leaving the country after she hopped court to answer to charges of declining to pay taxes between 2014 and last year.
In June, the businesswoman declined to come out before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as proposed, alleging she was in Zambia for unknown business deals.
Ms Mungai’s fault to appear before the taxman for the second time on December 3 prompted frowning over the likelihood of her fleeing.

Her lawyer appeared before anti-corruption court chief magistrate Felix Kombo on Monday and said she was been hospitalised since November 29. However, no medical documents were furnished to back the statement.
