Museveni rewards Tokyo athletes with cars as Kenyan athletes wallow in loneliness from deserted state

Uganda President Yoweri Museveni remunerate the three Ugandan athletes who won medals at the just-concluded Olympics games in Tokyo with a brand new vehicle and houses.

During a welcoming meeting with the athletes in Kampala on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, President Museveni also pledged to build a house for the parents of two athletes who won gold because he was ‘in a good mood’.

Uganda got two gold medals thanks to Peruth Chemutai in the women’s 3000m steeplechase race and, world 5000m record holder, Joshua Cheptegei triumphed in the men’s 5,000m finals.

Cheptegei also won bronze, while Jacob Kiplimo won bronze in the men’s 1000 metres.

Uganda achieved 37th overall out of 206 nations at the international tournament.

“For those who have won Olympics medals and since I am a happy man now, I will give each one of them a vehicle,” Museveni said.

“ I will build houses for parents of the gold medal people. I, therefore, congratulate Cheptegei, Chemutai and Kiplimo for performing well in Olympics games.”

The country’s Inspector General of Police, John Martins Okoth Ochola promised to fast-track the promotion of Cheptegei and Chemutai who are both police officers.
