Sarah Cherono Cheruiyot, the mother of current President William Ruto |
Because of what she considered “indecent dressing,” Sarah Cherono Cheruiyot, the mother of current President William Ruto, requested that a journalist wear a Maasai shuka.
Much to the delight of the crowd, Mama Sarah said that the lady, who works as a camerawoman for one of the local media firms, ought to value the type of activity that had been performed for her.
This took place on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the County Headquarters grounds, when Governor Jonathan Bii of Uasin Gishu was handing out title papers to recipients from Hill School, Maili Nne estates, and Kuinet.
“Leso is crucial; therefore, make sure you carry one. When I observed my daughter walking about in her short dress, I couldn’t help but think about what might happen if a camera were to fall on her. As a result, I decided to conceal her,” she explained in Kalenjin, with Governor Bii translating her words into Swahili.
She believed that women needed to maintain the tradition by wearing a leso, or shuka, and carrying a weapon.
After some time had passed, the woman in question departed and returned to the gathering wearing a suit.
It has been stated that this is not the first instance in which the woman has been called out for ‘indecent wearing,’ as on a previous occasion, she was prevented from entering a church celebration due to her attire.
Members of the press are not special, according to the congregation, and they should show respect for the church and observe ethical standards.
There were a total of 505 landowners who were given title documents, including Mama Sarah.
