Office of the deputy president will be under the office of the president and hiring of employees will be done directly by the Public service commission.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has given an executive order for the move to be implemented immediately.
The two offices initially had separate budgets but from the orders, both offices will share the same allocated “Presidency” budget.
The move comes in to streamline budget allocations between the two offices.
According to Nzioka Waita, the chief of staff, office of the president, the move is not new and that helps in the budget allocations.
“Aside from being a legally binding instruction issued by H.E The President, The Executive Order on The Organisation of Government is primarily an administrative tool that provides clarity to the Public Service on the designation of functions and placement of entities within the State, ” he said.
” Secondly it is a tool used by the National Treasury to prepare budget votes for approval by the national assembly for the proper allocation of funds to different offices and entities within the Government, ” he added.
” Thirdly it is a public reference document that is updated from time to time to assist the public to navigate the complexities of Government and to direct their request(s) to the correct office(s), ” he concluded.
