Sportybet Kenya shut down over a Ksh5 billion tax row with KRA. Sportybet Kenya has since stopped Kenyan operations and ceased to operate in the country. SportyBet moves come after Betking and Betway, among others, who have left the country.
Kenyan players have a lot of options to choose from thanks to SportyBet’s extensive selection of sports. Bets may be placed on live sports, casino games, and virtual sports, in addition to the many other betting options that are available.
Sportybet ceases operations in Kenya
SportyBet Ltd. is the name of the company that oversees the operation of the SportyBet Kenya brand.
The bookmaker is fully compliant with Kenyan law and may legally conduct business there because it has a license from the BCLB, also known as the Kenya Betting Control and Licensing Board.
In accordance with the Betting, Lotteries, and Gaming Act, Chapter 131, it has a licence with the number 0000241.
They were, however, expelled from the market once the new BCLB administration took over, and they are now looking for ways to return. Also, Sportybet went to court in August 2023 over a Sh5 billion tax row.
Sportybet claims that KRA is hurting its operations by freezing its accounts in six banks and Safaricom pay bill numbers over claims of unpaid tax amounting to Sh5 billion.
“Right now, we’re not taking deposits in Kenya, and we’re giving any remaining balances back to customers in Kenya. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.” Punters were given a fair warning by SportyBet.
