The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reopens the files of 2007/2008 Post Election Violence (PEV) cases following allegations by victims of new threats on their lives.
DCI boss George Kinoti, speaking on Monday, sought to reassure the public that perpetrators of will face the law locally upon the completion of probes.
Kinoti added that the National Intelligence has reports of ongoing ethnic profiling in some regions in the country. He maintains that the security machinery is embracing a proactive strategy to handle such cases.
The DCI boss addressed the press after a segment of the victims recorded their statements at the headquarters on Kiambu Road, said it was necessary to reopen the inquiry due to the crimes that were testified such as Kiambaa church where numerous people died.
“We have registered around 72 cases from those whose wives, husbands, children were killed…We have recorded cases of some who were driven out of their homes…We have 118 cases in total registered today with complainants and witnesses,” he said.
“I do not want to regionalize cases by stating the regions from where those who have registered the cases come from…As DCI, we are welcoming all Kenyans afflicted by this problem, ” he added.
Several leaders condemned the move.

“You never know what they are cooking, maybe there will be other cases. They have already arrived at the ICC case and are looking for witnesses so that they can say this case did not end properly,” William Ruto told Ken Mijungu on NTV Tonight on January 23, 2020.

Very shameful of @DCI_Kenya Kinoti to weave his unending political tales using victims of 2007 PEV . He cannot claim to have the capacity to do a better job than KNHRC n Waki. GOK should activate those reports if they r genuine. O/wise this is the usual kieleweke desperation.
