The younger brother of renowned preacher Ezekiel Odero has taken over leadership of a New Life Church branch in Kisii County, expanding the Odero family’s missionary efforts.
Since becoming the church’s senior pastor, Gillack Ouma Odero, the family’s fourth-born child, has seen a dramatic increase in the congregation’s prominence in Bonchari Constituency.
The church’s Sunday services are also attracting a large number of adherents from the surrounding counties of Homa Bay and Migori.
In a conversation with Nation, Gillack said that he had received a command from God to start a church in Kisii from his brother.
He emphasised that while he views his older brother as his spiritual father, he does not get any financial assistance from him.
“Pastor Ezekiel Odero raised me in that manner, yet I have never gotten even a penny from him. Because he also trusted God to lead him to where he is now, he enabled me to see the hand of God at work.
Gillick said that since his church’s finances had been stopped, the continuing prosecution against his brother had an impact on him as well.
“They have additionally frozen my accounts, although they are within their rights to do so while they look into the situation. But I’m still here; I’m a farmer, and I don’t think their inquiries will turn up anything,” Gillack said.
The pastor discussed activities now in motion and plans to grow the church in Kisii.
Pastor Ezekiel is now engaged in legal proceedings related to the operations of the New Life Church in Kilifi County.
However, it seems as though criticism is all around Pastor Ezekiel. According to early reports, officials detained him because they believed him to be a member of the ‘fasting cult’ that just came to light under the leadership of Paul Mackenzie Nthenge.
In Kenya, Pastor Ezekiel has a sizable fan base and frequently makes news when he preaches outside of his place of worship.
In November 2022, his preaching attracted a sizable audience that filled Kasarani Stadium and attracted the attention of Christians looking for his appealing message.
