Maasai communities in Ngorongoro, in the eastern Serengeti Plains of northeastern Tanzania, take to the streets to protest recent forced and violent evictions orchestrated by President Samia Suluhu’s government.
According to reports, the evictions are taking place to make way for a hunting and wildlife concession for the UAE royal family.
The Maasai, who have long inhabited these lands, are decrying the move as a form of dictatorship and a severe infringement on their traditional rights.
“Evicting a whole community from their ancestral land for foreigners to come and practice their shooting skills by killing wildlife is some nasty business,” a prominent political activist who sought anonymity said.
“African leaders really don’t care about their own people. They don’t care about their own race. They always try to please slave owners and enablers.
“They know nothing about their history. The activist continued, “Those people were slave traders who used chiefs to hunt for strong slaves.”
