Fresh details have emerged that customs authorities in the UK have held the travel documents of a Kenyan governor, Wavinya Ndeti, and her son, Charles Oduwale.
The Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti, has been in the UK for her fourth week on a private visit.
Last week, British anti-fraud officials questioned Charles, a dual citizen of the UK and Kenya, as well as Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
When he attempted to bank £4,004,915.65 (Ksh. 679 million) at First Commercial Bank in East London, authorities arrested him.
He failed to explain the source of the money but maintained that it was intended for constructing a “Level 5 hospital” for Machakos residents.
According to our sources, Charles and his mother were in the process of buying a residential apartment at Shrike Valley, one of East London’s secure residential estates.
The estate agents requested a bank transfer. “He was in the midst of depositing a substantial amount of money when chaos ensued.”
The Isleworth Crown Court arraigned Charles Oduwale on Monday. Before Justice Martin Edmunds, Charles Oduwale denied the money laundering charge and received a cash bail of £2,000.
Charles, his mother, and other family members are staying at their house in Shoreditch, East London, under police watch.
The British National Crime Agency’s investigation also seeks to establish if Mr. Charles Oduwale has links to a network involved in recent criminal activities, including smuggling over £100 million in illicit cash from the UK to the UAE.
Details have emerged that two Kenyan lawyers specialising in international and economic law flew to London on Friday.
A top Kenyan politician dispatched the two lawyers following a failed attempt to engage the British High Commissioner to Kenya.
The lead lawyer, Mr Bernard WT, is expected to mount a client defence at a court session scheduled for 11:00 AM UK time.
Mr. Charles Oduwale’s case is set to be mentioned this coming Monday.
