CS for tourism Rebecca Miano says the Ministry is now putting into action a number of different tactics in order to entice both domestic and international investment in the tourist industry.
The East African Community Customs Management Act provides duty exemptions for a variety of commodities, including kitchenware, cookers, gym equipment, air conditioning systems, and linen. Exemptions are among the most important factors in tourism growth.
Additionally, licensed tour operators who operate vehicles specifically designed for tourist transportation are eligible for value-added tax exemptions from the Ministry.
This category includes overland trucks and tour vans.
The government is simultaneously granting tariff exemptions to vessels used for tourism, as well as to refrigerated vehicles and trailers that are crucial for the transportation of agricultural products.
According to CS Miano, the Ministry is also facilitating concessionary loans through the Kenya Development Corporation for hotel repairs and developments.
These loans allow for payback durations ranging from ten to twenty years.
