Judge Prof. Nixon Sifuna of the High Court will decide whether Nairobi County employee and owner of the well-known 1824 nightclub, Mr. Wilson Nahashon Kanani, will forfeit Ksh 643.2 million in unexplained wealth to the state.
EACC filed the recovery suit after Kanani, a junior City Hall official with a modest salary of Ksh 55,866, failed to explain the source of his vast assets, including prime real estate, luxury vehicles, and Ksh 48 million in various bank accounts.
Investigations revealed that Kanani, through his accounts and those of his family members, transacted the suspicious Ksh 643.2 million over five years, amassing wealth far beyond his known income.
EACC has moved to seize the assets, maintaining they are proceeds of corruption.
EACC stated that the High Court Judge Prof. Nixon Sifuna delivered a judgement directing Nairobi County employee Wilson Nahashon Kanani to forfeit his unexplained wealth worth Kes643.2M to the government, as requested by EACC in its recovery suit.
EACC went to court after Kanani, a junior City Hall employee and director of 1824, a popular bar and nightclub along Langata Road, Nairobi, failed to explain the source of his multi-million-dollar wealth.
The unexplained assets include landed properties, high-end vehicles, and Ks48 million held in various bank accounts.
Investigations established that Kanani, a Development Control Officer II at City Hall earning a net salary of Kes55,866, had in 5 years transacted Kes643.2 million and accumulated assets whose value was way beyond his known legitimate sources of income.
He used bank accounts, companies, his spouse, and his minor children to conduct the corrupt dealings.
