Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, is very hopeful about becoming the leader of the African Union Commission (AUC).
He shared his optimism while in Kampala, Uganda, on January 11, 2025, during a meeting where many African leaders, including President William Ruto, gathered to discuss agriculture.

In a message on X, Youssef said, “My campaign for the chairperson of the AUC is going well. I will continue to talk with African leaders, ministers, and community leaders.”
Youssef believes he can win against his opponents, Raila Odinga from Kenya and Richard James Randriamandrato from Madagascar.
He encouraged his friends and supporters, saying, “Keep supporting me. I believe I will win, with God’s help.”
He also talked about what he wants to do if he becomes the AUC chair.

He said that he hears the concerns of young people in Africa and understands what they want. “I will work hard to represent you if I am elected,” he promised.
Youssef mentioned the importance of dreaming together for a better Africa. He concluded by saying, “Let’s work together to make our dreams come true.”
