Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli freed

Recent reports indicate that several Kenyan youths who were abducted have been released. Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Rony Kiplangat were reunited with their families on January 5, 2025.

However, the whereabouts of Gideon Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull, remain unknown.

This situation has sparked significant public outcry and attention on social media platforms, where there is a general sentiment of relief for those released but concern for those still missing.

The Kenyan government has not officially acknowledged involvement in these abductions, but there have been demands for accountability and justice from human rights organizations and the public.

The High Court has also ordered the immediate and unconditional release of some of the abducted youths, indicating legal actions are being pursued to address this issue.

Human Rights Watch has previously documented that Kenyan security forces have been involved in abductions, arbitrary arrests, and even killings of protesters, particularly in the context of anti-Finance Bill protests.

This pattern of abductions has been a point of contention, with implications for human rights and governance in Kenya.

The ongoing hunt for the remaining abducted individuals continues, with calls for transparency and action against those responsible.

The situation underscores a broader discussion about the state of civil liberties and security operations in the country.
