A police officer is hurt after his hand was cut off during a protest in Duka Moja Trading Centre, Narok County on Friday, January 17. A police officer is nursing injuries after his hand was chopped off during a protest in Narok County.
Angry residents took to the streets to protest against an attack where a Toyota Prado vehicle heading to Kisii hit their livestock, leading to the death of over 40 sheep.
The officer and his fellow police were attacked by angry villagers in Duka Moja, near the Narok-Kisii road. This attack caused traffic to stop for several hours.
The villagers were protesting because a Toyota Prado vehicle had hit their livestock the night before, killing over 40 sheep. They were very upset about this.
During the protest, the residents attacked the police, injuring one officer seriously. They cut off his arm and stole his gun. The villagers believe that the police had taken money to hide the accident.
The protests turned violent, leading to the deaths of three villagers when the police tried to control the crowd.

The police were there to remove the dead sheep from the road when the protest started. The villagers did not let the police take the sheep away.
The residents chased after the police officer who was running for safety. They caught him, beat him with sticks and machetes, and cut off his hand. They also took his gun.
Sankok Ole Lamwesi, a local resident, said, “We were very angry when we found out what happened last night. We learned that the police were paid 2 million Ksh to remove the sheep and cover up the incident.”
The villagers refused to let the road reopen and demanded that their governor come to see what had happened.
Drivers along the Narok-Kisii road were stuck for hours because of the protest.
David Okong’o, a driver caught in the traffic, said, “We have been here for three hours. I have passengers who are going to catch planes, and now they will be late. Why do they only protest when they lose livestock? What about when accidents happen and people die?”
Another passenger who was stuck spoke out against the violence and urged leaders to listen to the villagers and help solve their problems.
The injured police officer was taken to Nairobi for medical treatment. The police are now searching for the stolen gun.
