Elachi: Wakristu, shame on you; Muslims can’t insult leaders

Supporters of President William Ruto are pushing back against those who criticize him, especially on social media. “Wakristu shame on you, mnatuaibisha kwa Waislamu juu ya tabia yenu ya kutusi viongozi.”

On Sunday, Ruto went to a church service in Dagoretti North. During the service, lawmakers spoke out against the President’s critics.

Beatrice Elachi, the Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North, scolded people for disrespecting the President, even making bad comments about him in churches.

“We must respect the president; he is like our father. When we travel to other countries, they wonder where we come from,” Elachi said.

She also told Ruto’s critics to consider leaving Kenya if they are unhappy.

“Visitors say Kenya is a good country, but some Kenyans keep complaining. If you think Kenya is bad, why not leave? If you can’t leave, remember this is your home, and you have nowhere else to go,” Elachi explained.

She added, “When people in Dar Es Salaam hear that Kenyans insult their leaders, they worry that we are hurting our own country. So, where would you go? We need to show respect for the president.”

Elachi’s comments are part of a bigger movement encouraging respect for the head of state. This message is especially directed at social media users who have been openly unhappy with Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza government.
