KRA links Morara Kebaso with Sh 186m tax evasion

Morara Kebaso is a political activist who often criticizes President William Ruto online. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is investigating him for not paying his taxes.

The KRA has said that Morara owes them KSh 27 million in taxes from the last three years.

A report from NTV revealed that he made more than KSh 186 million from his businesses but only filed tax returns saying he earned nothing each year.

The tax investigation involves five of Morara’s companies: Morara Home Furniture, Morara Properties Limited, Luku Fashion, Igrow Digital Enterprise, and Nacktent Security Limited.

KRA is also looking into six vehicles that Morara owns, which include a Land Cruiser pickup, a Land Cruiser Prado, a Captain Tuk Tuk, a TVS motorcycle, a Renault van, and a Volkswagen Passat.

Additionally, the KRA noted that Morara has been receiving money in his personal bank account through Mpesa, which is said to be for paying costs related to furniture and fittings.

In response to the tax evasion claims, Morara has denied any wrongdoing.

He showed two tax compliance certificates for 2023 and 2024 that the KRA gave him, indicating that he is compliant with tax laws.
