UDA rebrand after ANC merger, Kindiki removed as deputy party leader

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Amani National Congress (ANC) are coming together to create a new political party. Insiders allege that the new brand will be the United Democratic Alliance Party.

DP Kithure Kindiki has been dropped as the UDA deputy party leader as the party merges with ANC. DP has been deputy party leader for less than three months.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy appointed the deputy party leader of UDA, and Hon. Omboko Malemba will be the deputy secretary general.

This decision was shared with the public on January 17, 2025. The aim is to unite their political power as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

The announcement was made during a press event at the State House by the chairperson of UDA, Cecily Mbarire. This step is seen as a way to bring together the current ruling coalition under one name.

In the new party, the leader of ANC, Issa Timamy, will be the deputy party leader. Other important positions include Kelvin Lunani as Vice Chairman and Omboko Milemba as Deputy Secretary General.

The new party will take ideas from both UDA and ANC, including colors and designs, to show that they are united.

President William Ruto has said that this merger will help address issues related to ethnic divisions and create a political group that truly represents what Kenyans want for the future.

People have different opinions about this merger. Some believe it is a strong step that will help them do well in the 2027 elections. Others are not so sure, as in the past, political groups in Kenya often face problems when they try to unite because of personal interests.

This merger is happening during a time when there are some disagreements within UDA, particularly between supporters of President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. These disagreements may affect how this new political group works together.
