Gor Mahia Appoints Croatian Sinisa Mihic as New Head Coach

Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, have officially appointed Sinisa Mihic, a seasoned Croatian coach, as their new head coach for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.

Mihic, aged 48, will take over from Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, who served as interim coach following the dismissal of Leonardo Neiva due to unsatisfactory team performance.

Mihic arrives with a rich coaching history, having managed teams across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

His career highlights include stints as an assistant manager at Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC and UAE’s Al-Nasr, and as head coach for several clubs, notably in Kuwait and Libya.

His appointment was confirmed by Gor Mahia’s management, who expressed confidence in his ability to blend youth development with competitive success, aligning with the club’s long-term ambitions in both domestic and continental competitions.

Gor Mahia currently sits third in the league standings with 31 points from 18 matches, trailing leaders Kenya Police FC and Tusker by six points.

Mihic’s immediate challenge will be to reignite Gor Mahia’s title defense, with his first assignment being a crucial match against league leaders, Tusker.

The decision to bring in Mihic has sparked a range of reactions among fans and observers. Some have lauded the move, citing his international experience as a potential game-changer for the team.

Others question the club’s reliance on foreign coaches, advocating for the promotion of local talent to leadership roles within the team.

Mihic will be assisted by Kenyan football legends Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam, signaling a blend of international strategy with local expertise.

His tenure begins on a six-month probation, with the possibility of extension based on performance.
