Over 250,000 Kenyans Scammed in State-Backed ‘ Kazi Majuu’

More than 250,000 people from Kenya have lost money in a scam that promised jobs as police in Qatar.

They paid a lot of money to agents who claimed to have support from the government, showing serious problems in how Kenya manages job opportunities abroad.

These people were tricked with the promise of good-paying jobs in Qatar’s police force.

Many paid large amounts—sometimes thousands of Kenyan shillings—to middlemen who said they were working with the government.

However, investigations have shown that these jobs did not exist. This has left many applicants in a difficult situation, as some had to borrow money or sell their belongings to pay for these scams.

“This hurts us deeply,” said Jane Wambui, a victim who lost KSh 50,000. “We trusted that the government was helping us find these jobs.”

The situation has caused anger among the public, with people demanding accountability and better rules for Kenya’s job-export programs.
