I’m Mercy, and I thought I was destined to be ordinary for a very long time. I was stuck no matter what I did, not because I was untalented or didn’t put in a lot of effort.
I began my career as an intern at a large Nairobi marketing firm. Every time, I was the last to depart and the first to arrive. I took on the difficult jobs that no one else wanted to do. I grinned despite my fatigue.
In meetings, I contributed ideas that were later claimed by others. Still no growth, no promotion, and no acknowledgement.
Those I trained quickly rose to positions of management. I remained behind, unnoticed, forgotten, and unseen.
