Mt Kenya Women Leaders among hundreds attend Gachagua’s special meeting at Wamunyoro

On the morning of May 4, 2025, many women from the Mt. Kenya area, led by Martha Karua, the leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), came together at the home of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for prayer and to talk about politics.

This gathering was important for Gachagua as he works to gain support in the Mt. Kenya region before starting his new political party later this month. Former MP Maina Kamanda was also there.

The event combined spiritual reflection and discussions about the area’s political future.

Martha Karua, an important opposition leader and Gachagua’s ally since early 2025, has helped unite people to stand against President William Ruto’s government in the upcoming 2027 elections.

This gathering shows how Karua and Gachagua, who used to be political rivals, are now working together for common goals, such as improving governance and addressing issues in the region.

Gachagua’s home, known as Wamunyoro, has been a busy place for political gatherings since his impeachment in October 2024.

It has hosted many groups from all over Kenya. The home now has a sign that says “I LOVE WAMUNYORO,” and it has become a new centre of influence in Central Kenya.

At the gathering, the women discussed local feelings and expectations, supporting Gachagua’s message about feeling betrayed by Ruto and his plan for a new political party.

This event followed other important meetings at Wamunyoro, including one on May 3, 2025, with students and grassroots leaders from Tharaka Nithi County, where Gachagua, along with his wife Dorcas and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, praised their vision.

Analysts believe this gathering was a smart move to attract women voters, who are very important, while also highlighting Karua’s role in bringing together opposition forces.

The event received mixed reactions online, with supporters applauding the unity efforts and some critics doubting whether they can effectively challenge Ruto’s strong Kenya Kwanza coalition.

As Gachagua gets ready to present his new party, which is expected to be launched in May 2025, the meetings at Wamunyoro show a clear intention to change the political situation in Mt. Kenya.

The success of these efforts, especially the partnership with Karua, will play a big role in the region’s impact on the 2027 elections.
