Raila Odinga donates Sh1 Million to 52 Nyanza Churches

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has donated Ksh 1 million to support 52 churches across Nyanza, part of a broader Ksh 8.5 million fundraising effort, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed announced on Sunday.

Speaking at an interdenominational prayer service held at Kadika Primary School in Suna East Constituency, attended by President William Ruto, Junet revealed that a Nairobi-based committee had mobilised the funds to support the churches united under a shared initiative.

“The committee raised Ksh 8.5 million from leaders and well-wishers,” Junet said, detailing contributions from prominent figures.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led with Ksh 2 million, followed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, each contributing Ksh 1 million.

Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also donated Ksh 1 million each. Kisumu-based businessman Kennedy Ong’eno contributed Ksh 500,000.

Junet emphasized the collaborative effort, stating, “We formed a committee for these 52 churches, and through visits to leaders like Deputy President Kindiki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, we secured these funds.”

The funds are expected to support various church activities in the region, though specific plans for allocation were not disclosed at the event.
