Police in Malindi, Kilifi County, have initiated an investigation into the death of a 12-year-old boy who reportedly tied himself in a loop earlier today in the Kajajini area. The incident has left the local community in shock, asking themselves why a 12-year-old committed suicide.
According to preliminary reports from the Malindi Sub-County Police, the boy was found by family members at their home, having allegedly used a rope to take his own life.
The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, and authorities are working to determine the factors that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Malindi Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Sunguti confirmed that officers responded promptly to the scene, and the boy’s body was transferred to the Malindi Level 5 Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the cause of this heartbreaking incident,” Sunguti stated, urging the public to refrain from speculation as enquiries continue.
Local residents expressed grief over the loss, with some calling for increased mental health support for young people in the area.
This incident follows a similar case in Kilifi County in 2020, where a six-year-old boy in Fundi Hamisi Village, Ganda Ward, was found to have taken his life under unclear circumstances. Police are appealing for information from the public to assist in their investigation.
