2 cops shot dead at Ng’iya police post following an argument

Two police officers, Constable Martin Mwendwa and Corporal Chesise from Ng’iya Police Post in Siaya County, were killed in a sad shooting event on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the morning.

The officers, Constable Martin Mwendwa and Corporal Chesise, were involved in an incident that might have been caused by a personal argument or a mental health issue.

The event happened around 6:00 a.m. when Constable Mwendwa reportedly went to his boss’s house with a G3 rifle and started shooting. He hit Corporal Chesise in the chest and arms, which led to her death.

After the shooting, Constable Mwendwa tried to escape. However, other officers caught him and shot him dead during a confrontation.

Gem Yala Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula confirmed what happened, saying that officers responded quickly after they heard the first gunshots.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we want to find out the true reasons behind this. We are looking into all possibilities, including mental health issues,” Wafula said.

Initial investigations suggest there may have been a disagreement between the two officers. Police are also checking if Mwendwa was having mental health problems at the time of the incident.

The bodies of both officers were taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital for an autopsy, while investigations continue to find out more about this tragic event.
