The postmortem of Albert Ojwang Omondi is complete. It was conducted by 5 pathologists led by Dr. Bernard Midia and Dr. Njoroge. They came to a unanimous conclusion that the cause of death was severe head injury due to blunt force trauma.
They also concluded that the injuries were not self-inflicted and did not happen at once. Besides the severe head injuries, the pathologists also confirmed multiple head, neck, limb, and body injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
The pathologist’s report shows Albert Ojwang didn’t commit suicide. He didn’t smash his head on the way.
Also, his neck appeared strangled. “Albert Ojwang was tortured and brutally murdered in police custody. We want every single officer held accountable. We don’t want excuses from IPOA,” Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo said.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo pressed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to disclose the names of officers interdicted in connection with Ojwang’s death, including those who arrested him in Homa Bay and those on duty at Central Police Station.
“Why has he not named the particular officers who have been interdicted? What is the need for hiding? Let Kenyans know,” she demanded, warning that withholding names risks being perceived as a “public relations stunt to pacify an angry public.”
She stressed the need for individual accountability, stating, “As LSK, we are going to make sure that each officer is held accountable individually; you will not hide behind any orders from above.”
“The fact that the family is not able to see the crime scene immediately raises questions. Do they want to prepare this crime scene to fit the story that they are trying to tell the public?” she questioned, noting that the denial of access to the cell where Ojwang died fuelled suspicions of foul play.
She called for Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who lodged the complaint against Ojwang for alleged defamation, to recuse himself from the investigation to ensure its integrity.
