I used to be jokingly referred to as the perennial bridesmaid. At every wedding I’ve attended, I’ve watched close friends, relatives, and even coworkers go down the aisle while grinning, applauding, and acting like everything was perfect. I cried behind the scenes. All of my relationships ended before they reached the altar, regardless of how promising or affectionate they appeared to be. I’d been in three committed partnerships.
Each got off to a lovely start, brimming with anticipation and even discussing marriage. However, something went wrong each time. Either an error of judgement would arise out of the blue and ruin everything, or the man abruptly lost interest and abruptly stopped talking to me.
