Arsenal overtakes Man United in Viktor Gyökeres’ signing

Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners to secure the signature of Sporting CP’s prolific striker Viktor Gyökeres this summer, despite recent interest from Manchester United.

Sources close to the player indicate that Gyökeres has set his sights on a move to the Emirates, prioritising a transfer to the Gunners over other suitors.

The 24-year-old Swedish international has been a long-standing target for Arsenal, who have kept tabs on his situation while negotiations for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško remain unresolved.

With no deal finalised for Šeško, Gyökeres remains a strong option for Mikel Arteta’s side as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Manchester United, who have also expressed keen interest in Gyökeres in recent weeks, now believe a deal is unlikely.

Despite their efforts, the Red Devils face an uphill battle to convince the striker, whose preference for Arsenal has become increasingly clear.

Arsenal continue to assess their options, with Gyökeres’ impressive goal-scoring record in Portugal—29 goals in 33 league appearances last season—making him a prime candidate to lead their line.

As the transfer window heats up, all eyes will be on whether the Gunners can finalise a deal for the coveted forward. The Sporting CP man now wants Emirates rather than Old Trafford.
