Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg Alsace has finalised an agreement to sign 16-year-old Brazilian fullback Angelo Candido from São Paulo FC, according to reports from journalist Marcelo Braga.
The deal, which includes a 12% sell-on clause for São Paulo, marks a strategic move by Strasbourg to bolster their squad with young talent.
Candido, a highly rated right-back from São Paulo’s youth academy, will join Strasbourg once he turns 18 due to international transfer regulations.
The agreement, valued at €5 million with an additional €2 million in potential add-ons, reflects Strasbourg’s investment in the teenager’s potential, with speculation of a future move to sister club Chelsea, part of the BlueCo group.
The Guarulhos-born defender has already made waves in Brazil, notably contributing a goal in the 2025 South American U-17 Championship final.
This signing is in line with Strasbourg’s commitment to youth development, given that their squad has an average age of 21.5, the youngest among the top five leagues in Europe.
The transfer of Angelo Candido to Strasbourg appears to be a promising step for his career, providing access to high-quality training and a potential route to Chelsea.
The €5M fee and 12% sell-on clause are solid for São Paulo. However, adaptation challenges and limited playing time at 18 could hinder his progress.
Ethical concerns about signing young talents also linger. It’s a calculated move, but success depends on careful management.
