Fenerbahçe Ahead of Napoli in Race for Jadon Sancho Sign

Turkish football team Fenerbahçe is interested in signing Jadon Sancho, a winger from Manchester United who wants to leave the club. Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported that Fenerbahçe has asked about how a transfer could happen.

Fenerbahçe have enquired about the conditions to sign Jadon Sancho. Napoli are also in talks, but the salary the player is demanding is too much for the Italian club. If Sancho does not reduce his salary, Napoli will not make a move.

Fenerbahçe’s interest comes as Napoli, a team in Italy, is having trouble meeting Sancho’s high wage demands of £300,000 per week. This is a big problem for Napoli as they try to negotiate.

Sancho, who is 25 years old and plays for England, was recently on loan at Chelsea during the 2024-25 season. His future at Manchester United is not clear, and the club wants to let him go to reduce their expenses and bring in new players.

Fenerbahçe’s head coach, José Mourinho, supports the idea of signing Sancho. The club aims to strengthen their team for the upcoming 2025-26 season in both the Turkish league and European competitions. They see Sancho as a key player to help them compete with other strong teams like Galatasaray.

Currently, talks with Manchester United have included ideas for a loan deal with an option to buy Sancho later, but Manchester United prefers a permanent transfer to get back some of the £73 million they paid to Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Sabuncuoğlu mentioned that Fenerbahçe reached out about Sancho in early June, as negotiations between Napoli and Sancho were not going well.

Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte, had verbally agreed with Sancho, according to Sky Sports Italia, but the team isn’t willing to pay his high salary, confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano said, “The transfer fee is manageable for Napoli, but the salary is too high.” He added that Sancho would need to accept a lower salary for the move to happen.

Napoli needs a left winger since Khvicha Kvaratskhelia left the team and is considering Sancho to play alongside his former United teammate, Scott McTominay.

However, Napoli’s focus may now shift to another player, Dan Ndoye from Bologna, as they are close to agreeing on personal terms, which might make it difficult for Sancho to join.

Sancho’s high wages, reported to be £300,000 a week by BBC Sport, have scared off other teams as well. Chelsea, who loaned him last season, chose to pay a £5 million fee instead of making a £25 million permanent deal because his salary was too high.

Even though Sancho scored five goals and had ten assists in 42 games last season, his inconsistent performances and personal issues, including a public argument with former United manager Erik ten Hag, have made teams hesitant to sign him. His current contract runs until June 2026, which adds urgency for Manchester United to find a transfer solution.

Other clubs like Juventus have also shown interest, according to Sporting News, because Sancho had impressive stats with 94 goal contributions in 118 Bundesliga matches while he was at Dortmund.

However, his wage demands have made it impossible for him to return to Dortmund or move to Bayer Leverkusen, even though there was interest earlier. Teams in the Saudi Pro League, like Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, can meet his salary demands, making them possible options.

Manchester United, under their coach Ruben Amorim, is focused on rebuilding the team, with new signings like Matheus Cunha and possible deals for other players.

Sancho returning to Manchester United is seen as a “nightmare scenario”, and the club hopes to finalise his transfer before their pre-season tour in the U.S. in July. His market value is estimated at €28 million by Transfermarkt, which shows his talent but also the challenge of his high salary.

Mother and joyful journalist.
