In the family, I was always the quiet one who never got into arguments, didn’t ask for much, and nevertheless always got the least amount of everything. My siblings always made sure that everyone knew how helpful they were, were louder, and were closer to our parents. Me? I was private. I thus didn’t anticipate anything significant from my father’s will when he went away. I was actually ready to go with nothing.
Our father had been a rich guy who owned three apartment buildings, a chain of retail stores, and other property parcels. His favourites became obvious as he grew older. He and my older brother were coworkers in the family firm. He was quite fond of my younger sister. And me? “The one who reads too much” was me. He was quite fond of my younger sister.
