I would have sacrificed my life to protect the person I considered my sister, my best friend, and my ride-or-die companion if anybody had informed me that she was responsible for the worst period of my life. I did everything with Achieng for years. We were inseparable, from sleepovers as kids to life milestones as adults. We exchanged meals, dreams, and secrets. However, I had no idea that I was sharing more than simply food—I was sharing my vitality, which I was gradually and unconsciously losing.
It began modestly. Even after getting a lot of sleep, I started to feel exhausted all the time. I started experiencing odd headaches, weakness in my body, and an inexplicable fogginess.
