How promotion slipped me into a coma

I believed that my life was finally improving when I was given the long-awaited promotion at work. I had been working at the same firm for more than ten years, was 38 years old, and had two children. The job came with additional duties, a nicer office, and a higher income. After ten years of arduous labour, it seemed like a breakthrough. My coworkers gave me their congratulations.

My folks were pleased. What about my wife? She was ecstatic. That weekend, we were going to celebrate alone. However, I didn’t think that happiness would endure only four days. She claimed that it began with a little headache that felt “different”. We assumed it was exhaustion. Within 48 hours, however, her eyes were distracted, and her speech began to slur.
