Kikuyu Gospel Artist Karangu Muraya Escapes Mob Attack in Murang’a

Renowned Kikuyu gospel artist Karangu Muraya narrowly escaped harm on Tuesday when an irate mob confronted him in Murang’a town.

The incident occurred shortly after Muraya’s visit to the State House, where he reportedly met with government officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and President William Ruto.

According to eyewitness accounts, Muraya was in the process of purchasing maize flour (unga) for donation at a local shop when residents recognised him.

The crowd, angered by his recent public support for the government and his association with controversial figures, began heckling and chasing him.

Netizens described the scene as chaotic, with Muraya requiring police intervention to escape safely. A police land cruiser was seen escorting the artist away from the growing mob.

The unrest stems from Muraya’s perceived alignment with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) regime, which has faced criticism in parts of the Mount Kenya region.

Some residents accused him of using donations, such as the maize flour, as a means to garner public favour for the government.

“Listening to the ground is the key, not pocketing our taxes to vomit on us,” one X user posted, reflecting local sentiment.

Muraya, known for his Akorino music and charitable activities, has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
