For me, it was more than simply a business when I eventually launched my little store. It was my hope, my desire, and my evidence that I could overcome adversity and create my own success. I had been saving for over four years, taking out small loans, working side jobs, and giving up every spare penny I had. I thus anticipated favours when I launched the store.
However, that was not how things turned out. I hardly had any clients during the first week. From daylight to night, I worked in the store, and occasionally, only one customer would enter and depart without making a purchase. My few pals either disregarded my messages or made fictitious pledges to come help me. Some even made fun of me. One claimed that leaving my work was the worst thing I had ever done.
