Who is Alfred Ndeta, ‘ Mungu wa Kakamega’, God in human form

Alfred Ndeta, a man from Mulomunye Village in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County, who claims to be “God in human form”, ‘Mungu wa Kakamega’ has stirred fresh debate by demanding personal security, likening his status to that of national leaders.

Ndeta, who asserts he descended from heaven in 1987 to save mankind, questioned why he lacks protection while presidents and governors have guards, stating, “I am the God of nations; why don’t I have security?”

In a recent interview with TV47, the 38-year-old Ndeta claimed he has never used a toilet despite eating, arguing there are “no toilets in heaven”, and described banishing Satan to hell on August 22, 1988.

He further asserts he is the father of Jesus and the leader of past Western Kenya self-proclaimed prophets, including Yesu wa Tongaren and Jehovah Wanyonyi, whom he calls his “escorts”.

Ndeta, who relocated from Nairobi to his “heaven” in Shibuli village in 1987 following a divine calling, is building a home resembling his celestial origins, supported by a group of young followers he refers to as “angels”.

His latest demand for security, reported by The Standard, has drawn mixed reactions.

Some locals in Kakamega claim Ndeta has performed healings, such as ordering villagers to relocate after sacrificing three sheep by a riverbank, an act they say was obeyed.

However, his claims lack empirical or mainstream religious support, with critics labelling them “delusional” and pointing to Kenya’s history of dangerous self-proclaimed prophets, such as Paul Mackenzie, linked to the Shakahola Forest Massacre.

Ndeta’s assertions come amid heightened scrutiny of fringe religious figures in Kenya, with the government previously flagging the need for tighter regulation following the Shakahola tragedy, where over 400 followers died under Mackenzie’s influence.
