On June 25, I saw something that would always be etched in my memory. The anti-tax demonstrations had caused mayhem in Makongeni, Thika. There were protesters everywhere, some calm, others irate. However, a few people exploited the opportunity to plunder, as usual. I saw a gang of young men break through the glass entrance of a store next to the stage and run away with boxes of merchandise. Others encouraged them as they ran and laughed. I was internally resentful. The protest did not include this.
