Closure can occasionally appear as a wedding invitation. At other times, it manifests as a careless text message that says, “Hello stranger,” at two in the morning. Sometimes, though, it manifests as a full-blown emotional storm in the shape of your ex, who claims that you are the source of her sentiments. I first noticed her at a cousin’s ruracio. Her scent arrived before her smile, and she arrived late wearing a red dress and no bra.
Something in my gut twisted. Not affection. Not regret. Something more profound. “Why does she still look like the trouble I once enjoyed?” or something like that. Two years prior, we had split up.
