The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Geoffrey Ruku, has shared news that the government is working on a new digital app to track how well public servants in Kenya are doing their jobs. Ruku talked about this during a visit to government offices in Embu on Monday, August 18, 2025. He said the app will be ready by the end of October.
The app is designed to check important details such as when employees arrive and leave, their leave status, and their attendance in real-time. Ruku explained that this technology will help make sure public workers come to work on time and do their jobs well.
“We need to improve our work so we can serve the people better. Being late or careless will not be allowed in government offices anymore,” Ruku stated.
He mentioned that this app will help monitor how employees are performing and deal with absenteeism. It will enable managers to quickly address any issues.
Ruku also pointed out that this system will help create trust between the public and the government, showing that services are being delivered properly.
He said that when public offices work slowly, it affects businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones, because delays in government tasks can disrupt their operations and hurt economic growth.
“Many people in businesses are already working hard each day. They know that success needs effort. Public servants must also work just as hard if we truly want to change our country for the better,” added Ruku.
The new app will work alongside the current systems for managing performance and will be used across different government departments and agencies.
Ruku mentioned that the system will be updated regularly. Workers who do not meet the expected standards may face consequences, while those who perform well will receive recognition.
By introducing this digital platform, the government hopes to promote a culture of being on time, working hard, and being responsible among civil servants. This should improve the quality of public services in Kenya and help the country’s economic and development goals.
