Woman Faints in Court, Accused Confesses Living in Her House

A courtroom in Kisii descend into turmoil as a woman fainted after learning that the man in the dock had been living in her home’s attic covertly for almost two years without her knowing. The suspect admitted to a far more troubling accusation during his defence after the woman, a retired schoolteacher who lived in Jogoo Estate, Kisii Town, had brought the guy to court on charges of harassment and stealing.

Using secret passageways and attic access panels he had found, the accused, known as John Mokaya, said before Principal Magistrate Maureen Wekesa that he had been living in the complainant’s attic since late 2023 and would only descend when she was sleeping or not there. Court officials had to temporarily suspend proceedings and take the woman to a nearby hospital for medical attention after the shocking disclosure caused her to fall in front of the courtroom.
