Nilikuwa Nakufa! Mombasa Fisherman’s Storm Miracle Voice

Imagine being out on the vast Indian Ocean, waves crashing like raged giants, and just when all hope seems lost, a soft voice whispers in your ear, guiding you to safety. That’s exactly what happened to Salim Omar, a 42-year-old fisherman from Mombasa’s bustling Likoni shores, turning him into Kenya’s latest feel-good sensation. It all went down last Friday evening. Salim was chugging along in his trusty little wooden boat, about four kilometres offshore, when, bam, a ferocious storm hit out of nowhere.

“The sea turned wild in seconds,” he shared with that easygoing smile of his. “My boat flipped like it was nothing, and there I was, bobbing in the dark, convinced my number was up.” For what felt like an eternity, nearly 20 minutes, he drifted, heart pounding. Then, clear as day, a gentle voice cut through the chaos: “Don’t give up, Salim. Your story’s not done yet.” At first, he figured it was his mind playing tricks, the exhaustion kicking in. But nope, right on cue, a sturdy chunk of driftwood floated his way.

He latched on for dear life, and soon enough, a crew from a nearby boat spotted him, hauling him aboard cold, worn out, but very much alive.
