Many folks in Kisumu still talk about Dennis Owino, a local guy who had it really tough early on. He bounced between small jobs like car washing and doing errands around the neighbourhood. Money was always tight. People around him often mocked his big dreams. They’d say he was chasing nothing and wouldn’t get far.
But Dennis didn’t let that stop him. He pinched every coin he earned. Sometimes he’d skip meals himself just to make sure his parents and little siblings had enough. The constant put-downs hurt, yet they pushed him harder to show everyone wrong.
Dennis remembers it clearly. “Neighbours used to laugh when they saw me saving up,” he says. “They told me it was pointless, that I’d never make it. I spent plenty of nights upset about it, but quitting wasn’t an option for me.”
