Heartbreaking Visit to Meet Her Parents in Siaya after Facing Rejection

I’m Kevin Otieno, and this story takes place in a quiet little neighbourhood in Siaya Town, right off Nyang’oma Road. It was just an ordinary Sunday, but man, my stomach was in knots the whole morning. After loving Faith from afar for two whole years, I was finally going to meet her folks.

I showed up with a simple gift bag – some maize flour, sugar, and tea leaves. That’s what I could manage on my salary as a junior tech guy fixing avionics stuff at a local workshop. Faith met me at the gate, looking as anxious as I felt. “Just relax and be you,” she murmured. I tried, but my hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Her dad, Mr Ochieng, was sitting there like a boss, arms folded tight. Her mom, Mama Auma, came out right after, giving me this look that screamed disapproval before I even said a word.

We started with the usual chit-chat: how’s work, where do you stay, and stuff about my simple place. Then, out of nowhere, Mama Auma turns to Faith and says, “So this is who you’ve picked?” The way she said it, full of scorn, hit me like a punch. They chuckled, swapped knowing looks, and I just forced a smile while everything inside me crumbled. Each laugh felt like it was stripping away my pride.
