Tifa Dangote Dies After Childbirth Bleeding at TMK Hospital

Popular Tanzanian content creator Tifa Dangote, whose real name was Latifa Sudi Mfaume, has died following severe bleeding shortly after giving birth at Kilakala Hospital in Morogoro. In a heartbreaking double tragedy, the newborn baby also passed away minutes after delivery. The family confirmed the devastating news on Wednesday morning, plunging thousands of her online followers into mourning across East Africa.

According to close family members who spoke to journalists outside TMK Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tifa Dangote was initially admitted to Kilakala Hospital on Monday evening when she went into labour. Medical staff successfully delivered the baby girl through normal delivery, but immediately after the birth, the new mother began experiencing heavy postpartum haemorrhage that doctors struggled to control.

Despite emergency efforts at Kilakala, her condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting an urgent transfer by ambulance to the larger TMK Hospital in the capital for specialised treatment.

Doctors at TMK fought for several hours to stabilise her, administering blood transfusions and medication, but the bleeding could not be stopped. Tifa Dangote was pronounced dead in the early hours of Wednesday. The infant, who showed initial signs of life, sadly succumbed shortly afterwards due to complications linked to the traumatic delivery.

Tifa Dangote’s husband

Her husband, speaking through tears to reporters gathered at the family home in Mbezi Beach, confirmed that the primary cause of death was massive postpartum haemorrhage, a condition that remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in Tanzania.

“She was so excited about becoming a mother. We had prepared everything. We never thought this would happen,” he said, surrounded by relatives and friends offering condolences.

Tifa Dangote rose to fame over the past three years through her vibrant lifestyle and comedy skits on TikTok and Instagram, where she had amassed more than 800,000 followers.

Known for her catchy phrase “Mambo vipi, darlings” and relatable content about relationships, fashion, and daily life in Dar es Salaam, the 28-year-old had recently shared joyful pregnancy updates, including a colourful baby shower attended by fellow influencers last month.

Fellow creators, musicians, and fans posted tearful tributes alongside photos and videos of the cheerful influencer dancing and laughing. “She brought light to so many timelines. Her loss hurts too much,” wrote comedian Mzee wa Bwax. Singer Nay Wa Mitego cancelled a scheduled performance, posting, “Rest in peace, Mama. We have lost a bright star.”

Women’s health advocates used the moment to renew calls for better maternal healthcare services, especially in regional hospitals. Dr. Rehema Kalinga, an obstetrician based in Morogoro, explained that postpartum haemorrhage claims hundreds of lives annually in Tanzania, often due to delays in recognising the severity or a lack of immediate access to blood banks and operating theatres

. “Many facilities still struggle with basic emergency obstetric care. When bleeding starts, every minute counts,” she told this reporter.

Meanwhile, burial arrangements are underway in accordance with Islamic rites. The body of Tifa Dangote and her newborn daughter will be laid to rest on Thursday afternoon at Kinondoni Cemetery after funeral prayers at Masjid Quba in Mbezi. Hundreds of fans are expected to gather along the route from the hospital mortuary to pay their last respects.

As the nation mourns the sudden loss of one of its most beloved young voices, many are left reflecting on the fragility of life and the urgent need to strengthen maternal healthcare across the country.

Tifa Dangote leaves behind a grieving husband, parents, siblings, and a digital community that grew to love her infectious energy and warmth. May she and her baby rest in eternal peace.
